horseheadFeb. 1--Jim and 'Will' began to move to the Sara Mine to do assessment work there.

Feb. 2--'Will' came back today for another load--are packing it on his horse. Mr. Gray was here today for dinner and shod 'Will's' horse.

Feb. 3--'Will' took another load--have ten mules to pack it--will be back tomorrow with side saddle on horse for me to ride over. John helping Tom--weather not very promising--raining a little this morning on the mountains--can see it snowing on the mountains.

Feb. 4--Started with 'Will' to the Park--windy--arrived safe after a very tiresome ride down the mountain--which is too steep to ride. Three miles along the Hualapi valley--through the big spring canyon where the Indians have their wiciups--stopped and had quite a consultation with Chief Scherum and his families; heard a strange chanting.

Feb. 6, Sun.--'Will' came last night on his horse--packed one load to the Park for Jim.

Feb.7--Finished pack and started for IXL cabin carrying what we could--put rest on the horse--my share of load 25 lbs. specimens in a hand bag.

Maybe Feb. 20, Sun.--then along the valley to edge of Silver Moon where Mr. Beckley's cattle ranch is--had a good visit and good dinner--and some more fine specimens--saw graves where three Mexican miners were killed by the Indians while at work--happened 20 years ago--got some flowers on the way--home at sundown--quite tired after nine mile walk.

Feb. 21--Cold and cloudy--Men went to town to grind axes and get news--got two letters and lots of papers--Mexicans came to look around.

Feb. 22--No signs of holiday around here. [Washngton's Birthday]--Snowed last night; John and Jim went out to cut wood--'Will' at mine--going to town this afternoon--baking bread and writing letters.

Feb. 23--Men at mine and cutting wood.

Feb. 24--'Will' went to Park--will go to Kingman to order lumber for house.

Feb. 25--Sun shining but not warm--men at mine--reading and writing letters.

Feb. 26--Clear and windy--'Will' got home last night--very tired--walked ten miles--baked bread and pies.

Feb. 27, Sun.--Went to Prosperity mine to get specimens--got some fine ones--Jim went to town.
